That all entities with proposed responsibilities under the Living in Community Action Plan commit to these priority actions which together form a strong basis for enhancing the safety of women engaged in the survival sex trade (MWCI Recommendation 5.2) That the City of Vancouver create and fund two community-based liaison positions to be filled by individuals who have experience in the survival sex trade (MWCI Recommendation 5.5). That the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Police Department take proactive measures to reduce the numbers of court warrants issued for minor offences (MWCI Recommendation 5.9)
The City has addressed all three recommendations.
In response to the complexity and diversity of sex work and sexual exploitation in Vancouver, the City created the Task Force on Sex Work and Sexual Exploitation in 2011.
The task force worked for two years to start implementing actions from the report “Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Protecting Vulnerable Adults and Neighbourhoods Affected by Sex Work: A Comprehensive Approach and Action Plan”. This report identified the need for a coordinated approach of key stakeholders to prevent the sexual exploitation of youth, increase the health and safety of sex workers, and mitigate community impacts.
As recommended by the MWCI, City social planners were handed over the work of the task force in 2014 and now lead the project together with other City staff and community partners.

Downtown Eastside in Vancouver and Other Warnings and Dangers.
Warnings and Dangers in Vancouver Downtown Eastside.
Known for its natural beauty, food, shopping, culture, and past as a Olympic host city, Vancouver is a popular tourist destination. However, like any city, there are certain safety issues to consider.
Crime-ridden Neighborhoods and Homeless People in Vancouver.
Many larger, more populated areas of Vancouver are known for their shopping centers, arts and entertainment, and food of all cultures. However, once you travel off the beaten path, you may run into some sketchy neighborhoods. Homeless people, down on their luck, are scattered throughout several areas, including Gastown, Surrey, Chinatown, and East Hastings. Do not be surprised if some ask you for money. Some areas are also known for drugs, and you may be approached by dealers.
Not every part of Downtown Eastside of Vancouver is dangerous and to be avoided. It is a good idea to avoid walking alone at night, and alleys should be avoided. But if you keep your eyes open and brush up on your street smarts, the area can be a great place to explore during the day.
Open Drug Use Downtown Eastside.
Many visitors note the blatant drug use that can be seen out in the open in many areas of Downtown Eastside. Most drug users and even drug dealers are not shy about offering you a sample of their product. If you pay no attention to them and act uninterested as you pass by, you will more than likely be left alone.
Avoid Driving Through the Downtown Eastside.
Parking your car for long periods of time in the Downtown Eastside is not a good idea, especially if you have an expensive automobile. It is a better idea to take a cab through the neighborhood. If you do have to drive, it is best to keep any valuables out of sight, travel in pairs or small groups, and keep your car parked for short periods of time.

Prostitute in North Vancouver

December 6, 2002 – Judge David Stone denied an application by Pickton’s lawyer Peter Ritchie to impose a publication ban on the suspected serial killer’s preliminary hearing. Pickton, a 53-year-old Port Coquitlam pig farmer, has been charged with murdering 15 of the 63 missing women from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Investigators have hinted at finding body parts, DNA and personal items in Pickton’s ramshackled farm. Defence attorney argued that the prosecution’s evidence against his client was so explosive, that it would be impossible to find an unbiased jury of 12 for his trial.
December 4, 2002 – One of the 62 women believed to have disappeared from the Downtown Eastside has been located alive. Tanya Colleen Emery, 38, was located living in Central Canada, said the joint RCMP-Vancouver city police task force investigating the disappearances. “She was located as part of our ongoing investigation,” said RCMP Const. Catherine Galliford, spokeswoman for the task force. Emery, who was number 46 on the list, was reportedly last seen in December 1998.
Officially, the list includes the names of 62 women. The task force is reviewing the case of one more woman woman fitting the same profile who could be added to the list.
